Websites, domain names, and hosting are fundamental components of the online presence for businesses and individuals. Let's break down each concept:

Websites:

A website is a collection of web pages and related content that is identified by a common domain name and published on at least one web server (also refered to as 'hosting'). Websites can contain a variety of information, such as text, images, videos, and interactive elements. Websites serve as a digital platform for businesses, organizations, or individuals to showcase their products, services, or ideas.

Domain Names:

A domain name is the human-readable address used to identify a specific location on the internet. It serves as the web address that users type into their browsers to access a particular website. For example, in the domain name "www.example.com," "example.com" is the domain. Domain names are essential for creating a recognizable and easily accessible online identity. They consist of two main parts: the actual name (e.g., "example") and the top-level domain (TLD) or extension (e.g., ".com," ".org," ".net").

Hosting:

Web hosting refers to the service that allows individuals or organizations to make their websites accessible on the internet. Web hosting providers offer server space and resources to store and serve the files and content of a website. When someone types a domain name into their browser (ie Example.com), the hosting server delivers the requested web pages to the user's device (ie computer, tablet, phone, etc). Hosting providers may offer different types of hosting plans, including shared hosting, virtual private server (VPS) hosting, and dedicated server hosting, each with varying levels of resources and control.

To have a functional website, you will need to...

1) register a domain name with a registrar (ie GoDaddy, Network Solutions, IONOS, etc). When you purchase a domain name you will have the choice to pay by the year or multiple years. You are the 'owner' of that domain name only for the years that you pay for it. So, technically speaking, each year you will have to renew your domain name. It should also be noted that if you don't renew your domain name, it may then be auctioned off by the registrar, or it will be released back available for anyone to purchase it. Many people and entities buy and sell domain names - and purchase domain names that once were a website but were not renewed.
2) choose a hosting provider (this can many times be offered from the registrar) and then
3) design your website yourself or hire a web designer/developer - uploading your website content to the hosting server. These components work together to create a seamless online experience for visitors.

Please Note: Most professional web designers (like us at 843Marketing.com) typically handle all of the above (1,2,3) for their clients for a worry free smooth functioning website.
